Punch Much
Interactive Media
Client Objective CTV and CHUM Television were pioneers in the integration of mobile with
broadcast media, having launched some of the first text-to-screen programming in North America with us in 2003. In 2006 the client was looking for new ways to engage viewers and build incremental
revenue.
Solution Together with MuchMusic, we created North America's first fully automated, all request music video channel powered entirely by viewers through their mobile phones.
PunchMuch creates an interactive experience by enabling viewers to vote for videos, participate in on-screen chat and more - all through premium mobile messaging. Each video is assigned a unique code
that viewers text in to register their vote, with a real-time vote tracker displayed at the bottom of the screen. Viewers can also send in pictures by MMS to be shown on television, a first in North
America. Each text message sent costs $1, picture messages cost $3 and all content is moderated before it goes to air.
Results The channel has operated 22 hours a day for 4 years generating thousands of messages per day and millions of dollars in revenue for the broadcaster.
